“The world must know what happened, and never forget.”

We visited this channel island off the coast of France on a British Isles Cruise.
We tendered from the cruise ship to this island filled with history, it was occupied by Germany during most of WWII and there are still many remnants from that time.
We learned that Guernsey is very exclusive, with the exception of a small amount of expensive property, you can only live there if you were born there. They’ll let you come for a few years and work but you must leave once you have fulfilled your time.
The streets are hilly, the people are friendly and the shops don’t look to have changed much over the years.
We opted to walk around the town in the morning. Our only goal was to visit the castle for the tour included with admission, and view the cannon blast. I highly recommend the tour, and probably any tour included with admission, I think it’s a great way to learn a little more than you would on your own.
Everyday at 12:00pm, they blast the cannons from Castle Cornet as a memorial to times past. If you’ve never been within a few feet of a cannon blast it is something to experience. You will feel it and hear it.
There is a lot to see on Guernsey especially if you’re interested in WW2.
We look forward to visiting again some day and hope to stay for a few days.
