We’ve really been enjoying learning more about Disney, to bring you correct and quality information from our blog. In our research we’ve come across several facts we’ve found interesting, fun, and unique. Of course we wanted to share them with you, our Disney Fan Friends. Here they are!
Disney World Facts:
1. 52 Million people visit Disney World every year. That’s more people than live in Ireland, Scotland, Greece, Belgium, Norway, Iceland, and Sweden combined! 😲
2. Disney World has only closed 7 times since it opened in 1971!
Hurricane Floyd -Sept. 1999, 1 day
9/11 Terrorist Attack – Sept. 2001, 1 day
Hurricane Charley – Aug. 2004, 1 day
Hurricane Frances – Sept. 2004, 1 day
Hurricane Matthew – Oct. 2016, 1 day
Hurricane Irma – Sept. 2017 2 days
Coronavirus COVID-19 – March 2020 – present
3. On November 13, 1978, Mickey Mouse was the first cartoon character to receive a star ⭐️ on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (Goofy was supportive but also a little jealous. 😉)
4. Roy O. Disney delivered the opening day speech of Walt Disney World on October 25, 1971. In that speech he said, “May Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who come to this happy place… a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn—together.” 🥺
5. Animal Kingdom has more than 300 different species of animals 🦓🐆🦒 and approximately 2000 animals in total. (They also have a petting zoo 🐐 which I just found out last year!)
6. Disney donates it’s food waste to create clean energy!⚡️(You’re half eaten Mickey Waffle may be powering your lights). Their prepared and perishable food that is not food waste is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
7. EPCOT is twice the size of the Magic Kingdom and spans 300 acres (This is why it feels like you’re walking forever after drinking🍸around the World Showcase.)
8. All buildings are under 200 feet. (We don’t want aviation lights ruining the magical 🎩 atmosphere!)
9. Rain never falls off Epcot’s Spaceship Earth’s Sphere. The ball was designed so that water travels into a passage inside the ball and is directed into the park’s World Showcase Lagoon. (Innovative and green!) 🌦
10. Approximately 1.65 million sunglasses 🕶 have been lost at Disney World since it opened in 1971. (We are guessing are least that many hair ties have been left at the top of Expedition Everest as well)
