Canada: Niagara Falls – A Weekend Trip

It’s Niagara Falls. It’s one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. Who wouldn’t want to walk across it?

I love Niagara Falls (Canadian side), for a weekend trip. I’ve been a few times but my husband had never been. So to celebrate his 30th Birthday, I decided we would take a quick trip to Niagara Falls.

(There is something so relaxing about the sound of the falls. I fell in love with it on my very first visit)

I always book a hotel overlooking the falls because it’s so nice to sit in your room and watch the falls. In the summer they have fireworks at night and the falls are lit up with multi-color lights. It’s definitely worth the extra cost in this case to book a room with a falls view.

Since this trip was to celebrate my husband’s birthday, I book excursions that he would like. Our first night there we walked around the town, played some mini golf, and ate dinner at Skylon Tower. Skylon Tower is a revolving restaurant with  views of Niagara Falls. The food is good and the view extraordinary, but it will give you a very old school vibe. It’s a fun experience but definitely could use some modernization. (Think of eating dinner at a resort in the 50s)

The next day we did some fun touristy things. We played the zombie experience, went to the wax museum, ate some poutine, and then went to a magic show for dinner.

(My husband loves magic so you’ll see we go to magic themed events a lot in our travels.)

This show was the Greg Frewin Magic show. The show was a lot of fun but again could use some updating. It was a lot of tricks done in the 80s and 90s with not much new tossed in. We enjoyed the show for what it was though. We laughed and played along while enjoying our dinner.  If you’ve never been to a magic show, definitely check this one out. You’ll enjoy it!

On Sunday we headed over to Niagara on the Lake for brunch and walked around the cute little town. I love this area. It’s away from the touristy stuff and it’s beautiful. You can hit up a few wineries for wine tastings on your way to the town. There’s also a flower clock, whirlpool trolley, and zip line course on the way to and from Niagara on the Lake.

In the evening I booked us a Niagara Falls tour that included dinner, the boat ride into the falls, and an opportunity to change the lights on the Falls. This was a highlight of our trip. We met some great people, our dinner was delicious and had a view, the boat was very cool, and changing the lights on the Falls was so amazing.

I was such a dork at the Behind the Falls tour. The light operator was really nice and let me change the lights a few times as well as program a new pattern. I highly recommend this tour.

After the tour we went to the casino and played for a bit and then headed back to the hotel.

This short trip was a summer time trip so most attractions were open. If you go in the winter, several attractions are closed but it’s also very peaceful with less tourists. In January, they have the Ice Wine Festival which I’ve gone up for and loved.
