Downton Abbey: The Exhibition at Biltmore Estate

“We must always travel in hope.”

— Carson, Downton Abbey

I visited the Biltmore Estate and toured the Downton Abbey Exhibition.  This exhibition began in June 2017 in Singapore, then came over to the US, and has made its way to a few locations.  It’s  final stop in the US is at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC and it will be there until September 7th.

If you aren’t familiar with the show or it’s been a while, there are displays throughout explaining the different characters and the meaning of the items shown.

First you’ll be greeted by Mr. Carson who is a little surprised in your interest in the servants’ quarters.

Towards the beginning you’ll have a chance to see what type of service position you would have at Downton Abbey. There is an interactive touchscreen display that runs through some questions to determine what role you would be if you worked at Downton Abbey. I got Mrs. Hughes!

There are also reproductions of letters, gifts, and jewelry used in the show throughout the first half of the exhibition.  It gives a very historically documented feel.

In the last half you’ll run into Mrs. Hughes in the hallway who says a quick hello and then hurries on with her duties.

You’ll see familiar sets like Mr. Carson’s Pantry, Mrs. Patmore’s kitchen, Lady Mary’s Bedroom, the servants’ dining area, and the main dining table of Downton Abbey set for an elegant dinner.

I loved walking through the exhibition, hearing the familiar music, seeing all the familiar faces, and the things used in the show.

There is second exhibit on the Biltmore Estate of the costumes worn in the show.  This is at Antler Hill Village and does not require a ticket.

This was a perfect compliment to our tour of Biltmore House.  A ticket to the house gives you access to the Exhibition.

If you are a fan of Downton Abbey I highly recommend visiting this exhibition if you get the chance.
