Ireland: Guinness, Guinness, Guinness

“The only thing better than a pint of Guinness is two pints of Guinness”

Pride of the Irish

Backstory:

When I was temporarily a time lord (two heartbeats💕), my husband agreed to give up all the things I had to give up (Including alcohol.) I love scotch 🥃 and whiskey and his favorite beer is Guinness. This is why we didn’t want to go to Ireland while I was pregnant. Why are we in Ireland then? That story here:

In Guinness We Trust:

We arrived in Ireland around 10am and were settled into our hotel by around noonish. I told my husband that he definitely needed to go to the Guinness Storehouse while in Dublin. He stood fast to his agreement of not drinking but I was insistent. Guinness is his favorite beer! I won! We decided to take a nap and then head over to the brewery.

When we got there, there was a line around the building. However if you had purchased tickets online, you are able to skip the line. So I hopped on my phone and bought tickets! (I recommend buying your tickets in advance)

Once inside you’re free to roam around the storehouse. Since I was pregnant  and therefore required 52 meals a day, we decided to grab a bite in the restaurant before exploring the brewery. Our server popped over really quickly and took our order. He then returned almost immediately with 4, 24 oz beers saying (read with Irish accent) “You two seem like a nice couple. Some guys ordered these but then had to leave before I served them. So here ya go! On the house!” (I didn’t look pregnant yet). It was a flight of different types of Guinness.

My husband, being the problem solver he is, drank all 4 beers🍻. (We have a strong “no alcohol left behind” policy.)

I did try a sip of each of the different Guinness and they were amazing!

After my alien was well fed and happily sucking my life force again🤰🏼and my husband was feeling a nice buzz, we decided to head up to the top of the building to the sky bar. Packaged with your ticket into the factory, you get a drink ticket. My husband used his drink ticket at the sky bar for a classic Guinness. It was really crowded in the sky bar but we found a little corner that looked over the city to stand in while my husband enjoyed his Guinness.

We had one drink ticket left and we decided to use it to learn how to pour the perfect Guinness. This was really cool! They have a large room with several little bars. They take about 10 people to each bar and show them how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness. Once you watch the bartender pour the Guinness, then you get a chance to pour your own. It’s a lot of fun and you get a certificate saying you know how to pour the perfect pint!

This meant that my husband had one more pint to drink!!! (Remember, no alcohol left behind)

Pouring the perfect pint

At this point the hubs was feeling pretty tipsy 🥴, so we just wandered around the brewery and went to the gift shop. (Tipsy husband means I got to buy more stuff🛍.

We headed back to the hotel and my husband promptly passed out at 7pm. I squeezed my pregnant 🤰 body into the bathtub and relaxed for a bit. Then also headed to bed (growing a human is exhausting.)

It was the perfect start to our Ireland trip!

I highly recommend visiting the Guinness Storehouse! It was worth the cost and a ton of fun. It is fairly crowded but it’s worth the wait to do the activities.
