USA: Biltmore House Tour

I’ve toured Biltmore House twice, once while it was decorated for Christmas and again last week.

Both visits I added the audio tour, which I highly recommend. The descriptions are very well timed and usually take as long as the room takes to stroll through. I prefer listening and looking around the room instead of reading.

The audio tour was a little different this time. When Biltmore House is decorated for the Holidays, in addition to talking about the various rooms, it also tells you about the decorations and the different events that happened around Christmas.

On my most recent visit, Biltmore House was taking caution due to Covid and limiting the number of people in each room. We didn’t have to wait too long to enter the next room and the rooms were never crowded, which was nice.
My favorite room in the house is the indoor pool. I love walking by the changing rooms and into this massive indoor tiled pool. The audio guide told us that they learned about 10 years ago it no longer holds water. The pool was filled for a party and they woke up to an empty pool that had drained into the basement. 😯

It’s a beautiful place to visit, filled with secret doors and elegance from a different time. It’s fun to imagine what a guest experienced on their visit to Biltmore House in the early 1900’s.
A ticket into the house also gives you access to the beautiful gardens nearby.

At this time you’ll need to reserve a time to enter the house.
There are a few cute shops near the house that open at 10:00 am. The shops are also limiting the amount of people inside and later in the day all the shops had a line. We visited at 10:00 am and were able to walk-in without waiting.
So if you get a later time to enter the house, you could visit the shops and gardens before your tour and take advantage of smaller crowds.
After your tour of Biltmore House head over to Antler Hill Village. They have a few shops, restaurants, and a complimentary wine tasting.
At this time the the tasting needs to be reserved the day of and they start taking reservations at 11:00 am. On the afternoon we visited I heard other guest being able to reserve their spot about 30 minutes later. I was scheduling ours for the evening and had a few times to choose from.

Antler Hill Village also has a Downton Abbey Costume Exhibit until September 7th of 2020 and the Biltmore Gardens Railway display until February 21st of 2021. Both are worth a visit and I think kids will really enjoy the railway display.

I plan to visit in the winter again to see the house decorated for Christmas. I will enjoy another wine tasting and perhaps buy a few more bottles of wine.
